Where can I find a cheap embroidery machine?

Victoria W asked:

I am looking for an embroidery machine, I don’t need the sewing and embroidery combo, but I don’t really want to spend 300 or 400 dollars because I just want to use it for fun. Does anyone know where I could find on whether it be used or refurbed?

    Ebay…is probably your only option
    look for singer futuras..

they will be in your price range used

they have the added bonus of being able to be hooked to your computer and not be limited to preloaded designs

do NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT

get a Brother as they are limited to the designs loaded (unless you get a more expesnsive one)..you can “add” designs to them, but the card reader is horribly expensive (i think around $300 for it)

So seriously get a Futie they are the best…a pain in the arse to learn

but once you figure it out, they are awesome

I doubt if you are going to find an embroidery only machine for less than $300.

Check sewing machine dealers to see if they have any that have been traded in.

A combo will provide you with a sewing machine (which you may find more useful and less expensive to use) as well as the option of an embroidery machine.

Buying used, other than from a dealer, will be like buying a pig in a poke – you will have no idea what you are getting and there will be no one to back it up.

Embroidery machines take special threads, bobbin thread and stabilizers – all of which can add up to several bucks.

Brother is the best and has been the leader in machine embroidery – the reader boxes/card (PED Basic) is $119.

Check Ebay and you will see that used embroidery machines start at $300.

You just as well get a new one at Walmart and order the PED Basic from

The bottom of the line Singer “embroidery” machine has to be connected to a PC in order to function as an embroidery machine.
